ViscoPract

dissolves persistent floating and sinking layers and specifically reduces viscosity

Our enzymatic problem solvers for eliminating floating and sinking layers stabilise the fermentation process and enable optimal utilisation of organic matter.

ViscoPract was specifically developed to break down solid layers and split water-binding polymers during the digestion of problematic plant substrates. The enzyme activity profiles are particularly tailored to the degradation of different structural components.

Extensive laboratory and field studies show convincing performance in the biogas process, with excellent temperature stability and pH tolerance.

ViscoPract attacks hardly degradable substrates at multiple points, thereby improving both the flow behaviour of the liquid phase of the digestate and the sliding properties of the fibres.

ViscoPract reduces viscosity, improves pumpability, and stabilises the digestion process.

FAQs about Biogas enzyme ViscoPract

ViscoPract is a specialised product used whenever mixing capacity in the fermenter becomes challenging. ViscoPract can dissolve floating and sinking layers and liquefy the fermenter again – without opening it or external mixing.
CX is the right choice when viscosity and mixing performance are impaired by fibre-rich substrates such as manure or other animal manures. It effectively breaks down floating and sinking layers. CP should be used when GPS, CCM, or other dry substrates are responsible for the challenges in the fermenter.
Layer formation in the fermenter is an undesirable phenomenon caused not only by substrate inhomogeneity but primarily by the specific density and physical properties of substrate components. Highly fibrous, lignified, and gas-containing light and buoyant materials (straw, grass) contribute to the formation of floating layers. Floating layers often occur when high proportions of stable manure are used, when hardly digestible components are not sufficiently broken down enzymatically and the resulting separation of the substrate input leads to the fibre fraction floating. Floating layers or crusts can reach thicknesses of one to several meters, significantly reducing the usable volume of the fermenter.
Sinking layers are also the result of separation of the fermentation material and insufficient digestion. Disturbances in the biological process in the fermenter can be a cause. An adjusted trace element supply and, if necessary, suitable enzyme preparations can help. Excessive contamination can also lead to sinking layers and ultimately to bottom deposits that may require a complete fermenter renovation.
Viscosity describes the thickness of a liquid, and as viscosity increases, flowability decreases. In highly viscous liquids, particles are more strongly bound to each other, reducing movement. Samples from a biogas plant are usually structurally viscous. Viscosity is not constant; it changes with the shear rate generated by the mixer.
