A dairy farm in Saxony discovered unusual problems with high somatic cell counts in its herd at the beginning of 2020. These issues motivated the farmer to use a product with live yeast and mycotoxin binders in order to get the problems under control again. After extensive consultation, the farmer tested our yeast orgacell sc mb.
Apart from the cell counts, the manure of the herd was washed through a sieve once before and once after the use of our yeast, in order to additionally check undigested feed residues in the feces.
In the manure, visibly fewer feed residues were found after just 6 weeks, cell counts decreased, and even milk performance started to improve – the live yeast shows its effect. By the end of 2020, udder health had stabilized, so the farm switched to orgacell sc 5/10. In this formulation, the mycotoxin binder is omitted, but it contains more inactive yeast, providing valuable protein and yeast cell walls. This continued to work well throughout 2021. Switching back to the combination with mycotoxin binder can be done quickly, allowing mycotoxin levels to be checked at any time. At the moment, the full amount of yeast – both live and inactivated – in orgacell sc 5/10 is sufficient for stable milk production and animal health.
