Gravel instead of sand – the optimal filling!

The protec silo bags are filled two-thirds with fine gravel in a grain size of 2/8 – this corresponds to around 17 kg for the 120 cm size and 12 kg for the 90 cm size. This makes them easy to stack and handle.
Thanks to the carrying handle, two silo bags can be carried conveniently at the same time. Silo bags filled with gravel do not absorb water, which means they remain supple, durable and flexible even when wet. The filling is not washed out by rain and does not freeze into a solid block in winter.
Thanks to their flexible shape, the silo bags fit closely against the silo surface and, when placed tightly together, provide a seamless barrier.

The Better Silo Protection

Silo bags (commonly referred to as sandbags) are significantly more effective for securing silos than the car tires still often used. There are several reasons for this:

• Silo bags can be placed to form a barrier (every 2.5–5 m) that minimizes the entry of air under the film. This reduces mould formation in the edge areas. There are always air gaps between car tyres, which can, in the worst case, form a network of air channels across the entire silo.
• Depending on their age and condition, tyres can release wire ends. If these get into the silage and are subsequently fed to the animals, this can lead to serious health problems.
• Handling the bags is considerably easier and more effective, not only when covering the silo but also when moving them after opening. This not only saves working time – your back will thank you, too!
