The Better Silo Protection

Silo bags (commonly referred to as sandbags) are significantly more effective for securing silos than the car tires still often used. There are several reasons for this:

• Silo bags can be arranged to form a continuous barrier that minimizes air ingress beneath the cover sheet, reducing mold formation along the edges. In contrast, car tires always create air gaps, which in the worst case can extend across the entire silo.
• Handling the bags is much easier and more efficient — not only when covering the silo but also during feed-out after opening. This saves time and reduces physical strain.
• Depending on their condition, tires may release wire fragments. If these enter the silage and are ingested, they can cause serious harm to animals.
