The importance of trace elements in biogas

Today, biogas trace elements are an integral component for binding sulphur and safeguarding the fermenter function. They play a decisive role in methane production in particular.

The rough requirement for biogas trace elements in a system is usually known. The supplementation requirements of a plant can be estimated using simple analytics. However, there is one major difference between trace element mixtures: it is not possible to compare prices objectively. Why is that? The ingredients are usually not openly declared. We do it differently. We declare all ingredients and formulations clearly, publicly and comparably.

progas® power w provides a precisely formulated blend of essential trace elements for use in biogas plants with a share of farm manure of 30% or more. Even though farm manure increases the amount of trace elements available in the fermenter, some elements are still required to ensure efficient biogas production.
Through the complex binding of the individual trace elements to EDTA, a safe-to-use trace element product is created that can be dosed into the fermenter of the biogas plant in compliance with TRGS regulations.

Which trace elements are the right choice?

An analysis of the fermenter contents is ideally the best basis for deciding whether, which, and how many trace elements should be used. progas® power w is suitable for all substrate mixes with a higher proportion of farm manure. These substrates also introduce increasing amounts of sulfur into the fermenter. Therefore, the need for iron should also be checked in order to prevent the formation of insoluble trace element compounds with sulfur.
The additional use of iron hydroxide such as OXIRED BIO 50 is recommended to ensure that the trace elements remain available for the biogas process.
