OXY Protec Premium Fleece

Why?

In recent years, customers have repeatedly approached us with film complaints: The silage showed mould spots and, in some cases, even water ingress. At first glance, however, the films appeared to be intact. After various tests, it turned out that there were tiny holes in the film. When we asked more detailed questions, it quickly became clear in most cases that the affected farms were experiencing problems with birds. Despite additional coverage with a silo protection net, the fine, sharp claws penetrated the film. The thickness of the film was irrelevant.

After that, it was clear to us: We need to protect the films better! So much work, time and money goes into producing silage – it should succeed! With OXY Protec Premium fleece, we have achieved a successful solution. It is made from highly durable polypropylene staple fibres. This makes the material highly stable and resistant to a wide range of environmental influences. In addition, neither adhesives nor other chemical binders are used – making it ideal for feed protection.

Practical sizes & easy handling

The fleece is available in practical sizes of 6 × 12.5 m and 6 × 100 m, making it easy to handle and adaptable to any silo size. Individual sections can be joined using protec Tape Ultra, which features an acrylic adhesive with excellent resistance to water and aging.

Fleece – the all-rounder

Fleece materials are used in many different fields, including agriculture. A new and innovative application is as a cover for silage. OXY Protec Premium Fleece is more than twice as thick as conventional covering fleece, making it strong enough to withstand even the sharp claws of birds, cats, and rodents. Unlike typical bird protection nets, its soft surface is gentle on sensitive films.

The efficiency factor

Even when covering straw bales, which is probably the best-known use of fleece, OXY Protec does an excellent job. Thanks to its water-repellent properties, it protects the bales from rain while remaining breathable and conforming closely to the shape of the bales. If the fleece is damaged in one place by mechanical impact, the material is stable enough to prevent further tearing.

With proper handling, OXY Protec can be used for silage for several years and later for bales as well. Sugar beets and grain can also benefit from OXY Protec: They are safely protected while still being able to “breathe”, meaning mould cannot spread as easily. Finally, it is also worth using it on manure. In many regions, manure covers are mandatory. Often, old silage film that is already damaged with holes is used for this purpose. However, this material is not breathable and therefore promotes rotting of the pile. OXY Protec, on the other hand, supports the desired decomposition process.
