Some of the nutrients are enclosed in the fibrous mass of the substrates, meaning that the bacteria in the digester cannot access them. The enzymes in progas flow ensure the rapid breakdown of fibers, making more nutrients available to the bacteria for gas production. When more fibrous mass is broken down, viscosity is improved while the amount of digestate is reduced at the same time.
