• the growth of yeasts and moulds is suppressed
• lactic acid production is accelerated, as lactic acid bacteria work best in the absence of oxygen
• the pH value drops quickly and spoilage bacteria are eliminated
• the activity of undesirable bacteria such as aceto- and enterobacter is stopped
• the silage does not heat up due to effective fermentation, preserving its energy content
• the silage surface remains in excellent condition
• less spoiled silage needs to be discarded
